Long before the success of Wonder Woman at the box office this year, Disney and Marvel Studios announced that their cinematic universe of superheroes would be launching their first solo movie starring a woman superhero in March of 2019 with Captain Marvel.
Shortly thereafter, Brie Larson was cast as the titular Carol Danvers and the movie was later announced to be set during the 1990s, leading many to speculate how the movie will be able to stand on its own and how it might also possibly serve as a lead-in for the movie that Marvel will release after it, their currently untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War.
Not much is known about Captain Marvel still, but the audience has been clued into a wide array of casting decisions that will not only make comic book movie fans happy, they will make fans happy, in general.
For one, Ben Mendelsohn and Jude Law have joined the cast and so has longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe staple, Samuel L. Jackson.
But there is an even more recent casting announcement. The star of She’s Gotta Have It, DeWanda Wise has joined the cast in a role that is currently unspecified. However, many fans believe that Wise will be portraying Monica Rambeau, who later becomes Captain Marvel in the comics.
