The television shows with the light and warm comedic sensibility of Michael Schur always take a little bit to become beloved by the general public.
Schur was a writer and actor on The Office and the show was infamous for its first season which many critics unfavorably compared to the British version as a lazy rehash. However, it is now one of the most beloved (and most binged) shows to ever air on television.
Parks and Recreation, which Schur created, was also notable for its maligned first season before the course was corrected and it became a staple of network television comedies.
As time went on, Schur’s shows found their fans at quicker rate than he was used to as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Master of None were exposed to immense success and rave reviews almost instantly.
He went back to his old ways with his latest foray into television comedy, however, with NBC’s The Good Place, which had an acclaimed first season, but a very small audience. The show became a hit on Netflix, though, and now it is beloved across the nation.
But surprisingly, many people do not believe Ted Danson’s Michael or Kristen Bell’s Eleanor is the best performance on the show. Many believe that the honor goes to D’Arcy Carden’s Janet, an artificial intelligence system. I can get behind it!
